My story!
UPDATE: thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and support. This was sooo hard for me to do: because I am used to doing everything on my own independently. Thank you to each one of you who has donated-and for those that remained anonymous THANK YOU too! Slowly but surely we will reach our goal.
MY STORY:
Hello! okay I’m gonna say from the jump; This is not a place that I ever thought I would be in but here I am. Like millions of Americans, I really struggled coming out of the Covid pandemic, trying to replace income. Finally, after a two year search, I found a dream job where I am so happy and proud to be a part of; although as an independent contractor, it does not offer sick days or sick time off leave. So, right after I started this amazing job I was diagnosed with breast cancer and six weeks of my life fell off… and then some tbh. The fear, the anxiety, as I was going through test after test after test impacted my productivity and as an independent contractor, I’m only paid for the projects that are fully completed and I was paralyzed with fear & testing/biopsies for a six week period. All this to say, it got me behind in my rent and where I thought, my landlord would have mercy… He surprised me with an eviction notice out of the blue this week :-( . I have two major surgeries -one in June with a four week recovery and a second one in September with a 10-12 week recovery-to treat the cancer, (which means limited or no income) and Aengus my emo support dog and I really need to stay in a familiar and safe place to heal and recover while I go through the treatment. I’m only paid for what I produce: so I am humbled beyond humbled, almost embarrassed to say if any of you have it in your heart to contribute a few dollars I need to pay my landlord the back rent, I owe him plus assure him that he will be paid through the rest of the year until I am recovered and healed and ready for the next chapter. Even if -you’re not able to donate, and I do understand, I want to spread the message that nobody going through a life-threatening illness should be faced with eviction or having their utilities turned off. I am documenting my situation so that when i’m through this: i can share my story and help many other people.
So, please help me spread this word. I am working my tail off between treatments, but I do realize I have to take the time off to get treated and recover and heal …. and it will be my mission to shine a spotlight on the difficulties of facing a cancer diagnosis while being financially challenged. if you’ve read this far, God bless you. You’re an amazing person. Thank you!
PS: if you have any specific questions, please DM me and I will be happy to answer.
