Support for Juan Maldonado's recovery from stroke

Donation protected
Hello friends and family,

We created this fundraiser for the medical support of our dear brother, Juan who had a cerebral hemorrhage and a couple of ischemic strokes on June 18-19th. As we were planning to celebrate father's day and graduations, Juan was planning to help me cook. Instead, we were all in Ontario on pins and needles not knowing if he would make it.

He was in the ICU for 16 days and is now in critical care. He will continue to be in hospital and will hopefully soon be in skilled nursing care. He suffered paralysis of his left side, including having no vision in his left eye.

Juan is an active, loved, and respected member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association. His dog, Lucky Lady, is sad and waiting for her "papa" to return. We are giving her lots of love and keeping her comfortable! She's ten years old and sad, but we will keep her as happy and healthy as possible because she means the world to Juan.

We know that his recovery will be long and costly. We are so grateful for the amazing medical care he has received so far. He has three more months of insurance coverage (thanks to the generosity of his employer), and after, we have to cover the cost of COBRA to ensure he continues to receive the best medical care possible. His insurance only covers two months of skilled nursing care and some acute therapy. He will need speech, occupational, physical, and behavioral therapies, and assistive equipment.

As a family, we are taking shifts driving from Orange County to Ontario. Mom and dad are with him daily, and thankfully it is helping so much with his recovery. Juan has been so strong; he is a fighter. Each day we see glimpses of progress in his recovery.

We hope you will join us and help in any way you can with his recovery. He cannot have many visitors as he tires easily. He has an infection that he has been fighting, so we have to limit visitors. Please consider a donation of any amount to help cover the enormous financial toll of his current and upcoming treatments.

We will keep posting updates as we are able. As you can imagine, we are all trying to do everything possible taking turns being with him, communicating with the medical team, and so much more.
