Son, brother, partner, friend and educator, Juan Antonio Zavala died Saturday, May 18th at the age of 38. Juan is survived by his father Saturnino Zavala, sisters Maria Elena and Martha Zavala, nephews Rolando and Andrew Quintanilla, and partner Edward Garcia, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Juan was born and raised in Dallas, and worked tirelessly to continue to give back to the city he loved. A graduate of Adamson High School, Juan received his graduate degree and Masters in Education from the University of North Texas and Worked as a teacher and Instructional Coach in the Dallas ISD, Irving ISD, and Midlothian ISD.
Juan loved to travel and spent summers seeing the beauty of the world. Some of his favorite places were Mexico, Spain, France and the Netherlands. He enjoyed hiking and could be found most weekends on the trails of Dallas with his two beloved dogs, Chloe and Canela. Juan knew that the best lessons were the ones that prepared students for their futures. He worked tirelessly to ready students and fellow staff members for a world that did not yet exist. The last lessons Juan taught were some of his most important yet.
He showed his students, family and friends how to be brave in the face of death, persevere against the odds, and love beyond all else. He will be greatly missed.

A Rosary will begin 6:00PM – 7:00PM Thursday.
Funeral Services for Juan will take place Friday, May 24, 2019, 10:00AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 231 N. Marsalis Ave, Dallas Texas 75203.
