Support for Justin Silva
Donation protected
Aloha family, friends, and generous community members. This fundraiser has been created for our dearest loved one, Justin Silva.
Justin is an adventurous 30-year-old from the island of Kauaʻi that enjoys surfing, fishing, and building. Unfortunately, Justin recently suffered severe brain trauma and is in desperate need of your assistance.
On May 6th, Justin was medevacked to Straub Hospital on Oʻahu after experiencing a stroke due to a ruptured brain clot. Sadly, the doctors have determined that the brain clot is inoperable due to its location in the brain. Additionally, the doctors discovered that Justin was born with a brain defect that may have caused the clot.
Since the incident, Justin has received brain surgery to alleviate internal hemorrhaging and swelling. A portion of his skull was removed and placed in his abdomen. A tube was inserted to continue draining any residual fluids. After the surgery, and undergoing several CT scans, doctors have explored the possibility of radiation treatment to diminish the clot. Justin's condition is still critical as he remains in the ICU on a ventilator.
The responsibility of care for Justin has primarily been shared between his father, David Silva, and partner, Zari Fernandez. Upon Justin's arrival at Straub, David and Zari have traveled to Oʻahu to provide immediate care. We are asking for your help on behalf of his loved ones. The current state of the world has placed tremendous burdens on us all as we navigate the stressors of a pandemic. While we may not be able to support each other physically, we can do our part to alleviate their financial burdens.
Any donation made will be put towards his medical bills, future therapy, and travel expenses. As his loved ones face the unimaginable and do all they can, we hope that you can contribute to ease their suffering. We remain hopeful of Justin's condition, and would like to leave you with this ʻōlelo noʻeau:
He lālā kamahele no ka lāʻau ku i ka pali.
A far-reaching branch of the tree standing on the cliff.
This proverb is a boast of a strong person who, like the tree on the cliff, can withstand gales and pouring rain. May Justin withstand this period of turmoil. Mahalo for your continued time, aloha, and support for him.
Respectfully,
Justin's ʻohana
