Support for Kchera and Eric
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Megan. My very dear, lifelong friend Kchera has suffered multiple extremely challenging setbacks recently, resulting in tremendous stress as well as expenses piling up.
On December 11th, her husband Eric had a stroke. Thankfully he survived, but it left him with significant physical impairment. Through today (Feb 27), Kchera has been able to take partial leave from her job as a vet tech at a nonprofit animal hospital to care for Eric, staying in communication with all of his doctors and therapists to ensure his recovery so that he can eventually return to his passion, teaching English at a local college. Unfortunately, she is now out of paid time off.
After 6 weeks of in-patient rehabilitation, Eric was surpassing all expectations and was able to begin rehabbing at home with Kchera’s near-constant care and attention. Still, he has a long road ahead to regain his strength and mobility, and ultimately his former good health.
At the same time, Kchera continued to manage the rewarding but exhausting task of raising their sweet, young rescue puppy, Eddie, who has buoyed Eric’s spirits amidst his daunting medical rehab.
Tragically, within 2 weeks of Eric’s return home Kchera’s mother’s health took a turn for the worse. Undaunted by the hour-long drive each way, Kchera managed to visit her mom between Eric’s appointments, and was able to be by her side during her final days.
Unbelievably, Kchera had only one day to mourn the loss of her mom before misfortune struck yet again. An electrical fire started in Kchera and Eric’s duplex apartment, which was then deemed uninhabitable, and their month-to-month lease terminated with just 60 days notice. Kchera, Eric, their 3 cats and their young puppy have all been displaced to a motel, bringing even more unforeseeable expenses as they now must find a new place to live.
With Eric in the most vulnerable condition of his life and the most critical period of healing following a stroke, they are faced with the difficulty of securing housing with necessary accommodations for Eric’s health issues and where they will be allowed to keep their beloved rescue pets: cats Gracie, Lala and Little Miss, and their puppy, Eddie.
Proceeds of this fundraiser will go toward their monthly expenses. Any funds over and above that amount will help Kchera travel to Texas, where her beloved mother wished to be laid to rest.
These crises stacked on top of each other in 2 months seem like too much for anyone to bear, but Kchera has continued to rise each day and do everything in her power to meet every challenge with a positive attitude. Please know that offering your support to this most caring, wise, and generous person is truly a gift worth giving.
Any amount you can donate will be deeply appreciated.
