Support for Kimberly Getz
Donation protected
This campaign will assist Kimberly (Kim) Getz with rent, living expenses, and medical expenses at an especially challenging time in her life. Please note: The beneficiary of this campaign (by Kim's request) is her mother, Beverly Phillips. Kim will receive all donations.
On January 1, 2023, Kim’s long-time common-law partner, David Alcock, died tragically and unexpectedly. To say that this loss has uprooted Kim’s life would be an understatement. Kim and David adored each other and shared a wonderful life. They loved camping, being in the mountains, bonding over their shared love of live music, and spending time together at home with their pup, Aggie.
This tragedy comes as Kim continues to face multiple health challenges. In late 2020, Kim tested positive for Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with grade 3 cells, a rare and life-threatening diagnosis. To make a difficult diagnosis worse, her medical team discovered that her breast cancer is “triple-negative” which is rare, aggressive, and treatment-resistant. This type of cancer has a high rate of reoccurrence, poor prognosis, and the ability to quickly metastasize.
Kim immediately started pre-operative chemotherapy. She subsequently had surgery, followed by radiation and an additional 8 rounds of chemotherapy, which was halted early due to severe and uncommon side effects. As a result of these lifesaving treatments, Kim currently has no evidence of disease but faces ongoing health issues including a serious autoimmune disorder that is unlike any other her medical team has seen. Kim’s treatments to date have caused early menopause, infertility, and long-term cognitive and physical side effects. Due to these challenges and her ongoing treatment requirements, Kim is not yet able to return to her full-time job, which she previously excelled at and enjoyed.
While no evidence of cancer is present, Kim’s circulating tumour DNA tests remain inconclusive. She is set to undergo additional scans to rule out potential metastases to her ribs, a threat that was detected in October 2022. Kimberly will now have to attend these exams and face the next legs of her cancer journey without her rock, David.
Kim’s cancer diagnosis has been a long, painful, and emotionally trying journey. She was tremendously grateful to have David by her side through it all. David was a constant source of support, comfort, and love through every challenge she faced. Kim is beyond devastated by the loss of David.
Many people have reached out to Kim, her friends, and her family to ask how they can support her. This campaign will provide support for Kimberly for rent, living, and medical expenses.
Kimberly, her family, and David's family deeply appreciate all of you.
