Support for Levi Kerr & Family

On Monday, Jan. 18th, while hiking at Riley Ranch in Bend, OR with his parents Erika and James and brothers Noah and Jacob, 10 year-old Levi lost consciousness, collapsed and stopped breathing. Another hiker in the area, stopped and performed CPR on him and he was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center. He was then airlifted with Erika by his side to the cardiac intensive care unit at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford in Palo Alto, CA.
On Tuesday, Levi showed some promising signs and briefly woke up for the first time since he collapsed. He attempted to sit up and cough a bit and very slightly shook his head to the side when the nurse asked him about suctioning. He glanced over to his mother and it looked as though he calmed a little when she came over to him. They gave him more sedation and is back asleep and has undergone various tests to determine next steps. Levi was born with a heart defect and his history of complex heart surgeries and his physiology make his arteries unique and open heart surgery very invasive.
James arrived on Tuesday and they are able to be with Levi in his room together (a blessing during COVID times) and have been able to get into Ronald McDonald House which is another blessing. The older boys are fortunate to have their grandmother, Valerie (Erika's mom) living close by so they are able to be with her in Bend.
Late Tuesday, Levi's team of doctors determined they need to do open heart surgery first thing Wednesday morning. Levi will be in surgery the majority of the day. They will learn about his neurological state after the surgery. I will post updates here for those of you not on Facebook following Erika.
The costs associated with all of this, even after the Kerr's health insurance are staggering. After a little convincing, Erika and James allowed me to create this GoFundMe page in hopes of lightening some of their financial load.
