Support for Lily Garzon

UPDATE: After spending 5 months in the hospital, Lily is finally home! As you can imagine we are incredibly excited to have her back with us, however there is much to learn about this new reality of home care and disability. My mother is now her primary caretaker, while also having to manage her own job. Insurance and Medicaid are helpful, but we are still responsible for deductibles and living expenses. We don’t yet know the extent of what is required, but it will certainly be thousands of dollars. We will update this page with more details once we gain a better sense of our financial needs.

Our beautiful baby sister was rushed to the hospital on September 4th for a ruptured aneurysm and is in critical care. As of this moment she is still in the ICU and is expected to be for some time. We are blessed that she is in an excellent facility with a nationally-recognized neuroscience department, and is under constant care by a devoted team. We pray that her youth, good health, and incredible strength will carry her through this challenge.

Lily is a proud geek with a love of Harry Potter, Star Wars, and comic books. She is also an artist in every sense- skilled in painting, crafting, acting, and dance. Her true passion however is music. She is a talented vocalist and has been a member of the Charlotte Children's Choir, the Plaza Presbyterian Church choir, the Charlotte Symphony choir, and Opera Wilmington.


Currently, Lily is a music major at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. In addition to an interest in the research of Sephardic music, she has discovered a love of conducting. On the day she was rushed to the hospital, she was supposed to receive her very own conductor's baton. We are eager for her to wake up and finally hold what she eagerly refers to as her magic wand.

We are raising funds to cover Lily's medical expenses as well as her current living expenses such as rent, car insurance, credit cards, student loans, etc. We don't know what the future holds. It is too early to know how long recovery can take, or what long-term damage her brain has suffered. What we do know is that there will be high costs to her hospital stay and any future therapies. We will be updating this page as we learn what those costs are.

We sincerely thank you for all of your prayers, good vibes, healing energy, and virtual hugs. We ask that you extend those to the professionals who are caring for her. Lily is our baby, and we know that she is well-loved by many. You give us strength and hope.
