Support for Living Costs After Job Loss
Donation protected
Tried reporting discrimination and harassment, and lost my job. Employer did not investigate it. Government agencies did not investigate or did not properly investigate my complaints (e.g.: my complaint closed without reason and no response when I tried following up and filing an appeal; no response from the agency; complaint accidentally closed; main issues in complaint not investigated). This resulted in significant negative consequences for me, and I am currently looking for help with covering living costs.
The main incident was when I asked for disability accommodations and my employer was telling me that I should not ask for accommodations and that they are not going to do anything. People were avoiding me, my supervisor wanted that I find someone else to work with, there was no funding for me, I was told that I should not have accommodations, I was told that I need to leave my work. It was awful.
When I contacted my employer's reporting offices to submit a discrimination complaint, I was told that my experiences are not against any policy and so I could not submit a complaint. I was also told that I was not discriminated based on disability. Only after half a year my employer allowed me to submit a complaint. However, this was just the beginning. I will skip details. There was practically no investigation (e.g., my employer considered that there is no need to interview any witnesses), policies related to reporting processes were not followed, incidents continued, I lost my work position, I was told that I should not report incidents, and in the end, I was terminated.
All of this had a big impact on me and has been a very stressful and traumatic experience. Currently, I am representing myself in court against my (former) employer, which takes a lot of time. Applying to new job positions has been challenging.
Last few months (or more) have been difficult. I am not able to pay bills and I have had no adequate access to food and hygiene items. This further makes it difficult to focus on finding a new job and continuing to represent myself in court. Donations would be used to cover: utilities bills, part of rent, phone bill $57.41 ( so that my phone number does not get suspended and potentially assigned to someone else), bank fee $4.95, membership in professional organization in my field $73.00, something for Christmas presents for family/friends (e.g., $50), food (e.g., so that, ideally, I could have access to cereals/bread every day and enough vegetarian sources of proteins).
NOTE: Initially, I was asking for donations for a phone bill of around $100 total, food and other bills. That phone bill was successfully paid and I was able to get some good food then. Thanks everyone a lot for this!! Currently, there is more bills, and I would really appreciate it if some help with these bills would be possible!!
One change: I created an additional fundraiser that is more general and doesn’t focus on specific experiences. I am planning to use this version in more professional settings and I will promptly make updates if I receive some help through the new fundraiser or in any other ways.
Any help would be great! Thank you very much for all the support!
