We come to you today to honor the life and legacy of Luis Angel "Iluica" Viniegra, a cherished brother, leader, and one of the founding members of the RezRiders Indian Motorcycle Club Arizona Chapter. Luis's journey ended on 09-10-2024, yet his spirit and impact will forever resonate within our hearts and community.
Luis was more than just a club member; he was a revolutionary figure, a soldier in El Movimiento Chicano, and a proud Black Beret. From the 1960s until his last day, he was a civil rights activist and an organizer. His passion for justice, equity, and change was unwavering, and he dedicated his life to advocating for the rights of Chicano and Indigenous peoples. As a brilliant historian and martial arts expert, Luis inspired many with his knowledge, strength, and articulate leadership.
Throughout his 74 years, Luis cultivated deep connections within his community, embodying the ideals of Chicanismo and Indigenous civil rights. His love for his Gente was evident in every action he took, and this love will keep his memory alive in all of us. He was a guiding light, drawing people together with his charisma, humor, and unwavering loyalty.
Some other things that set him apart from the average man were being a Special Forces veteran (Green Beret), a Black Belt and martial arts master who was inducted into the martial arts hall of fame in 2019, and a Sundancer in Arizona.
As we reflect on his life, we remember the countless moments filled with laughter, camaraderie, and shared stories. Luis was not just a brother to us; he was a mentor, a friend, and a source of inspiration. His commitment to the RezRiders and the values we hold dear will continue to drive us forward as we ride in his honor.
In this time of loss, let us support each other and Luis's family, sending our thoughts, prayers, and love to his brother Joel Viniegra, his family, and all who were touched by his spirit. May we continue to carry his legacy, standing united in the fight for justice and equality.
Rest easy, Brother Luis. Your spirit will ride with us always. Ojala, may you walk in beauty.
