Support for Macie

We are campaigning on behalf of Macie as she combats the monster that is Stage 3 Oral Cancer. 

After battling mouth pain this winter, Macie visited the dentist, who confirmed what she had feared. Her pain was not caused by a typical dental issue. Specialists quickly worked to identify the cause of Macie's pain through a biopsy which revealed stage three oral cancer. Despite this diagnosis, it has been clear that Macie is surrounded by God's power and grace. Since her initial dentist visit, Macie has been referred to an amazing team of insightful and quick working medical experts. They knew time was of the essence. Her medical team in Ann Arbor are among the best in the country. How incredible that these doctors and specialists are nearly in Macie's back yard!

Within a few weeks of diagnosis, Macie would undergo surgery to remove over 1/3 of her tongue, which involved skin grafting from both her leg and wrist.  She exited surgery with a trach and feeding tube. Macie surpassed everyone's expectations post-operation and less than two weeks later she was home trach and feeding tube free! 

Macie has spent the past month continuing her journey at home and preparing to face the long road of radiation and speech therapy ahead. Those begin this month in Ann Arbor. Our campaign goal is to assist in covering both Macie's insurance deductible and the costs associated with relocating to Ann Arbor for several weeks as she undergoes radiation treatment each day. This leg of her journey is expected to be even more trying than the last, as the radiation process is merciless. Macie has seen the work that God is able to do and has started a walk of faith that only He can reveal to her. We praise his name for all He has done and the work He will continue to do through Macie. Please join us in doing all that we can to support Macie during this trying process and her ultimate healing.

If you have not had the good fortune of knowing Macie as her closest friends and family do, we would love to tell you about her wonderful spirit. Macie has an inner need to help those around her. She is a relationship builder and makes immediate connections. She brightens the day of anyone she encounters. Her work in title examining has taken her across several states, ensuring that her loving and cheerful spirit has enhanced the lives of all of the people she has had the pleasure of working with. Over two years ago, Macie met her partner Ashley and has since worked faithfully to make sure that their children are raised in a safe and loving home. They continue to move forward everyday, despite Macie's diagnosis, in raising a strong family. Not enough can be said for Macie's selflessness, but also her humor. If you are reading this and do not know Macie personally, please ask. The stories of hi-jinks can only be done justice when told personally so that you can see the smile on our faces as we recall our best memories.
