Support for Mary Everhart

This past June, after experiencing repeated falls at home, Mary went to the hospital for answers. Tests and imaging performed during that hospital admission led to a diagnosis of Stage IV Cancer. The cancer has spread from her lungs to include seven brain tumors and one tumor at the base of her spine, impacting her memory and mobility. Radiation and treatment have begun, but the road ahead is long, and any bit of help can make a difference.

The goal of this GoFundMe is to help support Mary throughout her treatment by offsetting medical costs, helping to pay for groceries and other necessities for her and her disabled son, Daniel, and providing a fund for potential home repairs/renovations that may need to be made for accessibility.

Many of you know Mary from the music scene, and as a musician, she has left an iconic mark that spans a 45 year (and counting!) career. Even as a child, she knew music was an intrinsic part of her and her connection to the world. When she was in third grade, her contribution to “Show and Tell” was a 45 rpm of “Green Onions” by Booker T and the MG’s. She was twelve when she started playing guitar, and despite being left-handed, she learned to play right-handed with the help of the “Mel Bay Instructional Guide”, studying how others played, and diligent practice. Starting in 1999, she spent seven years in the Great Atlanta Blues Revue. During that time, she was also in the Piedmont Park “Georgia Blues Photo” that hangs in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. In 2010, she was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame, and then in 2011 was elevated to a Blues Hall of Fame Ambassador to Tallahassee, FL. She’s performed all across the southeast and has released several albums under her own label, the most recent of which, I’m Staying Home, came out in 2021— and per Mary, it’s the best one yet. Mary has had so much love and creative spirit to share with the community. One paragraph can’t communicate an entire life’s worth of passion and dedication, but I hope it gives you at least a glimpse of the incredible dream Mary has cultivated and fulfilled.
