My name is Kathryn Wessell and I am starting this Go Fund Me for my 41-year-old cousin, Megan, who has had an extremely difficult year. Megan lost her job in December 2020. She was working diligently to find a new job and had several good leads when after a routine mammogram she was diagnosed with Stage 3, Triple Negative Breast Cancer in early March. She had one larger tumor with a satellite in her left breast and the cancer had spread to lymph nodes under her arm. Thankfully, Megan had health insurance that enabled her to start receiving treatment almost immediately. With the help of her family, Megan believed she had the resources to complete treatment and get back in the job market without asking for help. She truly did not want to ask friends to provide financial assistance for her through this journey; however, her treatment did not go according to plan. After 5 months of intense chemotherapy, Megan had a double mastectomy with reconstruction in September which was to be followed by radiation treatment beginning in early October. That would have put Megan back in the job market hopefully well before the holidays. But two weeks following surgery she developed a raging MRSA infection in her right breast which led to a five-day hospital stay and surgery to clean out the infected area and remove the implant in that breast. The infection delayed radiation for about a month. And now Megan faces two additional surgeries before she can begin looking for a job. Her first surgery will be the day before Thanksgiving, with the second following after the beginning of January. This means after time to heal and gain her strength back, it will be February at the earliest before Megan can begin searching for employment. The additional surgeries and treatments mean more co-pays and out-of-pocket expenses that Megan had not planned for. With a mortgage, living, and medical expenses and no income since unemployment ran out in early September, Megan needs assistance to get her through to the end of her journey. For all the family and friends who have aided in a variety of ways, we appreciate you and are not asking for more. For those of you who have the resources and have been looking for a way to help, please consider giving to this Go Fund Me. To finish this story on a positive note it has been determined that the chemotherapy and surgery did their jobs – Megan is cancer free!
