Megan DiMauro's Recovery Fund

As some of you may know, a little over a month ago our sister Megan was rushed to Maine Medical Center after experiencing severe heart-related symptoms and by the time she was admitted to the Cardiothoracic ICU she was in heart, liver, and kidney failure. She was placed on a life-saving device to keep her heart alive and thankfully the incredible cardiothoracic team at Maine Med was able to keep her stable. While in ICU and after receiving many procedures, tests, and surgeries; the army of doctors overseeing her care found a small mass near her adrenal gland/kidney. The mass is malignant (meaning hormone - producing), which is incredibly rare for this kind of tumor. In addition to the malignant tumor, Megan also has a very rare diagnosis of eosinophilic myocarditis which effects the function of her heart. Her doctors knew right away that the tumor would have to be removed, but her heart and her body were not strong enough for the surgery to be performed right away. So after spending two weeks at Maine Med (mostly in ICU), Megan was sent home to recover and to ready her body for this major open surgery. She is on countless medications to keep both conditions stable during this process and the surgery will take place on June 21st. We are all anxious for this tumor to be removed and will work closely with her team of doctors to determine her path to recovery and any long-term care that may be needed for her heart.
As anyone who has met Megan knows, she is one of the most loving and generous people you’ll ever come across. She is an incredible mom to her young son, is full of life and puts her WHOLE SELF into caring for and loving others. Megan has been and will be unable to work regularly for many many months. We are grateful for any help as this will be a very tough road for our sweet Meg.
