Hello friends and family!
For the past week, Micah Didion has been seriously ill with a life-threatening bowel disease. He arrived in Cotonou, Benin, a poor, small country in Africa, on 2/19/2023 and became symptomatic. He was hospitalized 3/5 with a serious infection and started on intravenous antibiotics. Benin has limited medical care. The small hospital in Cotonou is unable to handle his worsening medical condition. His siblings, Brady and Kelsey, arrived Wednesday 3/7 and are with him continuously. Brady, being a medical doctor, has been able to get him stronger/better medication to manage his pain. Arrangements have been secured today, 3/10, for a medical evacuation via air ambulance from Benin to Nuremberg, Germany on 3/11 where Micah will receive the emergency surgery and specialized care he needs to survive and recover. Brady will accompany him on the plane and stay with him in Germany till he is again stable.
Needless to say this has been a dire situation and has put significant emotional and financial strain on Micah’s family who have worked around the clock on getting him out of Benin and to a safer place. Countless hours have been spent on calls to the American embassies, getting translation services in a French speaking country, seeking expert medical help to understand his condition, wiring money, arranging transportation-just to name a few. The financial cost on the family is significant as the air evacuation alone is $66,000 US dollars.
This account has been established for the rest of us who can help Micah and his family. Any financial donation from you will help off-set the overall cost of this emergency situation. The family appreciates all the prayers with which you have surrounded them and Micah.
