On Sunday, April 25, 2021 -- what was supposed to be just another fun day on the river with friends –Michael Karr’s life was changed drastically.
As he was preparing to dock and tie off his boat, a freak accident happened and he was pinned between the dock and the boat. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors determined that he had multiple fractures in his pelvis as well as his hip sockets, he also sustained injuries to his bladder, intestines, and other internal organs.
Michael bravely underwent 5 surgeries, for both internal organ repairs as well as orthopedic repairs and it is unknown at this time if/or how many additional surgeries may be needed.
Following the surgery to rebuild his pelvis, he will need to remain in a sedentary position for 6 weeks for his pelvis to heal before he can even begin any type of rehabilitation to regain the use of his lower body. He will then need to learn to sit and walk again through physical therapy.
But what adversity was not able to take was his hope, his grit, and his courage.
In true Michael fashion, he has been a soldier through all of this, and his progress has been encouraging, but he still has a long way to go before being able to function independently. He has fought for our country so we know he will fight through this.
Michael's tragic experience hits especially close to home - it could have been any one of us. Louisiana is the Sportsman’s Paradise so spending time boating is a favorite pastime for a lot of us.
We need your help to support Michael’s medical expenses in the next year so that he can focus on his recovery and not the medical bills that will be mounting up on top of his day to day living expenses he and his family have.
Thank you for reading Michael’s story. We appreciate any help or contribution, no matter how big or small! If possible, please share the campaign link to your social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and with your friends. He has worked with and touched so many people’s lives in one way or another so we would love to be able to reach as many of those people as we can. We will keep you posted on his progress going forward.
