Help for my neighbours' grieving family
My name is Helen and I’m setting up this GoFundMe for my neighbours, Becky and Brandy.
They are compassionate, kind women who have gone through unbelievable heartbreak and difficulties recently.
Last week their son died from physical and mental health issues that have followed him from his earlier years in foster care. Brandy and Becky started the process of adopting the two brothers 5 years ago, during which time they have fought tirelessly for mental health assistance for both boys, although it was not always made available to them. It has been the most delightful thing to see both boys playing every possible sport in the driveway and helping with outdoor chores. They had stability and love and were such a great part of our neighbourhood. They would often ask 60ish me to come and shoot some hoops with them:)
Tragically, their younger son was removed due to automatic CAS processes after his older brother’s death. Hiring a lawyer to fight for his right to return is far outside their financial means.
In addition, Becky suffers from her own health issues, having been diagnosed with Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria, and can no longer work or go into public places such as stores or restaurants. Her life-saving medications cost over $1200 monthly, none of which are covered by Trillium.
Dad lives with them and has been diagnosed with rapidly advancing dementia, and is now unable to work either. He will require increasing assistance going forward.
All of these financial stressors on top of their son’s death have them feeling completely
overwhelmed and unable to cover expenses for their daily bills, let alone medications and expensive lawyer fees. They are kind-hearted people who never fail to help others when needed, even taking in pets that were faced with losing a home.
Please consider making a donation to help them get financially stable, hire a lawyer and allow them to grieve their son without the added stress of having to leave their home. No amount is too small. Also please share among your social media groups to expand our network of friends.
Thank you for your compassion for this family.
