Support for Nellie

Our friend/coworker Nellie Kim needs our help!

Back in April, Nellie's downstairs neighbors' vintage electric record player started a fire in the middle of the night. She called 911 when her smoke detector went off so the fire department was on scene when the neighbors came home and discovered the fire. Luckily, everybody and their pets got out safely and the building was saved. However, Nellie's condo was completely damaged by smoke and was totally gutted. Her property manager originally told her that the rebuild would take a few months but the repairs still haven't started. They haven't even hired a contractor and the only rough timeline they can say is maybe 12+ more months!

After living in hotels for months, Nellie just managed to get a rental in the same complex as her damaged condo. Her mortgage company won't give her a break during this hardship so she now has to pay her condo mortgage, rent on her current place, HOA fees and double utilities. All of the new furniture she bought when she moved into her place 6 months before and other personal belongings were taken to be cleaned and stored until the condo is fixed, and she is living with minimal furniture and personal belongings. She won't know how much of her furniture and other belongings can be salvaged and what will have to be replaced until the repairs are finished. Her insurance coverage for housing is exhausted due to the delays and on top of all this, her car's rear axle suffered a "catastrophic failure" two weeks ago and had to be replaced immediately. This cost nearly another $10k to repair and it was not feasible to trade it in with its unrepaired condition or take on the cost of another vehicle.

Nellie is not one to ever ask for assistance but this has truly been a financial hardship on her and she’s doing everything she can to make ends meet. She’s even selling what few precious possessions she does still have online, and is working overtime literally everyday of her work week.

Thank you for any and all support you could provide to Nellie! She’s been working so hard and has not been able to catch a break. Anything helps.
