Support for New Hoyer Lift & Sling — URGENT!

Hello there! My name is Takira (they/she)! I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and I am a full-time wheelchair user who requires a power lift for all transfers. Insurance does not cover power lifts, and my current lift is hanging on by a thread—literally. Manual lifts do exist—but it takes two people for transfers, making manual lifts less than ideal for me. Power lifts allow me to participate in my care by controlling the movement of the lift while my caregiver(s) position me. These lifts only come with a one-year limited warranty, and replacement parts and labor are expensive. In my case, my lift is in need of several repairs—all of which make transfers unsafe, uncomfortable and painful, lengthy, and unpredictable. My care is dependent on the reliability of such devices, so this request is time sensitive. The wires on the remote control are exposed and are currently being secured and bonded together by black tape, in addition to the remote having a severe and worsening shortage (what used to be a 15-minute transfer is now 30-45 minutes, and counting); the left handlebar used to guide the lift during transfers is broken; and the battery does not hold a charge and the lift must constantly be connected to an outlet when not in use. In addition to needing a new lift, I need a new sling. My sling is torn in various places, adding to the discomfort/pain and lack of safety I experience during transfers. I’ve patched up these issues as much as possible. The out-of-pocket cost for repairs and labor would be close to that of a new lift, so it makes more sense to get a new lift.

Of course, I’ve done my research into financing options and other funding—all of which are not immediately accessible or feasible.
