Support for Nina Dezio (Talamo)

Hi All,

As many of you know Nina and Justin are using their wedding vows “in sickness & in health” only two short months after their wedding day.

Nina was diagnosed with high risk T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma in early December and has spent the past few weeks at Strong Memorial.

Prior to being diagnosed, she was being treated for pneumonia during Thanksgiving and thereafter. After a constant struggle with shortness of breath - she left school via ambulance to be treated in the ER for fluid in her heart and lung. After many rounds of testing, multiple doctors visits from many different departments she was informed of her diagnosis. Upon transferring to Strong Memorial from RGH she finally found some clarity after meeting with her doctor.

Nina is currently in Phase 1 of her inpatient chemo treatment. Ideally she will be able to go home for NYE to continue outpatient treatment.

Due to the aggressive nature of this type of cancer the chemo treatment in Phase 2 will match that aggression. The outpatient treatments are said to last for 6-8months. Throughout that time there will

be emergency room visits, long treatment sessions, Chemo side effects, mental health challenges, etc. Dr O 'Dwyer (her amazing doctor) said it is during this time that patients get discouraged and want to quit but she asked Nina to keep fighting as this phase is extremely important.

Phase 3 consists of continued oral chemo treatment for 18 months.

While she will be able to be in the comfort of her own home she will need our constant and continued support in the same manner we’ve given her this month! Please continue to pray for her healing and health throughout this process, for her loving husband who will be by her side for all of the testing, treatments and side effects. For her wonderful family on both sides who have provided support and will continue to do so!
