Support for Officer Tony Harris
Donation protected
This campaign was launched to support Officer Tony Harris, a beloved security guard at Georgetown Day School and the Edmund Burke School in NW Washington, DC. Antonio Harris, known as “Tony”, was struck during the horrific shooting at the Edmund Burke School in Van Ness on April 22, 2022, and he sustained critical injuries. Tony is currently in the hospital and on a long road to recovery.
Tony is a Marine Corp Veteran and worked for MPD (Metropolitan Police Department) for 26 years. He was assigned to the 2nd District for his entire career and developed and maintained many ties to the community throughout his term, thus the reason he continues to work in the 2nd District after he retired from MPD. Tony currently works for both Georgetown Day School and the Edmund Burke School, and is a dedicated member of the security team on both campuses.
Outside of his service in the police department and serving as security in the schools, Tony enjoys photography and worked as a professional photographer for several years. Tony has four children: three adult children and one teenager. He is deeply family-oriented and truly a “people person.” He is loved by family, his colleagues, and members of the communities in which he serves.
Tony’s colleagues describe him as an honest, loyal, and dear friend who adores those with whom he works. Tony often speaks of the joy he receives from both his family and his work in providing assistance to other police officers, both active and retired. He has a genuine sense of humor and wonderful personality. Many of his colleagues remark that there is never a conversation with Tony that does not end with a good laugh.
With an outpouring of concern, members of the community have asked how they can help Tony and his family, and demonstrate their support. We’ve organized this GoFundMe to offer a platform for community members to provide direct financial support to Tony’s family, as they work to care for Tony during this time and eventually when he is home. In addition to the prayers which are needed and welcome, please consider making a donation. Tony has dedicated his life to serving our community, and we want to be there for him as much as he’s been there for us.
