Support for our Family after Fire destroyed Home

Donation protected
Hi Everyone..
Over the years I have seen many GoFundMe pages.. I never thought, or hoped I would never, be in a position to have to make one but when unexpected devastation happens in your life and when your kids are involved.. You will do whatever it takes to try and make it better or help fix it in some way, that's why I'm here..

Even though it's hard to form words right now with the stress and emotions I've had the last two days, I'm going to try my best to explain what happened on Monday morning, February 12th at 10:10am.

I received one of the worst phone calls possible from my Husband Jay that our house was on fire!
Our oldest Son Mason (21) was home and started smelling smoke in the house. He figured out it was coming somewhere from the 3rd floor (we live on the second). The 3rd floor is a big storage area with a ton of our belongings. Mason called 911 while Jay grabbed the fire extinguisher and tried to go up there but the smoke was too thick..

My ride home after that call was so awful as you can imagine, so many thoughts and panic.. Our youngest Son Jaxson (15) was in the car with me. We pulled up to our street only about 4 mins later and the firetrucks were already there thankfully.

Walking up to your house with smoke pouring out of it is something you can never prepare yourself for. Along with seeing firefighters breaking down your front door to your home, smashing windows and seeing water from a hose pouring out of a hole that's now in your roof.
When the smoke finally stopped, then came seeing our belongings we had in storage getting thrown out into the yard all melted and burnt..
I thought that was bad but it was nothing compared to walking into our home for the 1st time hours later after all the destruction took place. It took everything in me not to collapse.. The kitchen, I spend the most time in, completely destroyed but the absolute worst was seeing what both our sons' rooms looked like..
We aren't sure how the fire started, somewhere in the floor above their rooms ..  They couldn't find exactly where so they had to break open their ceilings so their rooms took the most damage unfortunately.

All their belongings, their blankets, beds, pillows, were completely soaked from the hoses, covered in wood, insulation and from whatever else came out of the ceiling.. And the smell, the smell from the burning and smoke was just so awful.  All their belongings, clothes, shoes, special things, stuff they had on and in their dressers, everything has been completely ruined. It's absolutely heart wrenching to have this happen to your kids.

Not only have they lost what was in their rooms but they have lost their home too.. And that's why I'm starting this GoFundMe.

Of course we are so beyond grateful that we are all ok physically, our Cat too! It could have been so much worst.. But now that the smoke has cleared... literally, the realization that we don't have a home to live in anymore is so incredibly scary!

We have been staying in the cheapest hotel we could find that's still near Jax's school but this is not ideal. It's so expensive to live this way! We need to be saving for an apartment but that's impossible for us to do with this added expense we now have.

We were in no way prepared to be moving right now, we had a secure place to live for years! This nightmare came out of nowhere..
I just want to have a home with my family again.. and we have to graciously ask for some help to have that again.

When we are able to find an apartment, we want to be able to have the funds to move in so we are asking for help with 1st months rent and security deposit so we can be in a home together again, that's most important.

We would also like to be able to get the Boys some clothes, shoes & other items they unfairly lost if possible.

Anything you could please contribute, even a share or a lead to an Apt if you are local to New London.. We would be so beyond grateful!

Hotels used to be fun to stay in but when it's your only option for "home", it's a different story. There's different sounds, smells here.. We all miss our own beds, blankets, pillows.. The kids miss having their own rooms to go into and have space, their clothes and shoes to change into.
I love feeding and cooking for my family but now I don't only not have a fridge or kitchen, I don't even have a fork! We also miss our Cat so much too who can't stay with us.

All the comforts of a home have been taken from us, our home has been condemned and it's such an gut wrenching, horrible feeling as you can imagine. We are trying to stay strong but this is so, so scary.

It's really not easy to ask for help but I am willing to do anything to get my family in a home again.

We appreciate the time you took to read this. If you could please contribute to helping us in some way, we would be so super grateful and thank you not just from the bottom of our hearts, but the whole thing!

Lots of pictures are located under this post in updates.

With Love - Melanie, Jason, Mason & Jaxson

*Also please stay safe, have smoke detectors in your home and put in fresh batteries if it's telling you too! If you smell smoke, investigate where it's coming from! I hope you never have to go through something like this or worse!*
