Support for Parents' Recent Trouble
Donation protected
Dear all,
As some of you may (or may not) know, my parents have fallen on very hard financial times since my father lost his job in early 2015 when the family publishing company shut down. My parents were able to survive off my father's disabilities benefits after his bike accident in April 2015, but unfortunately since their benefits ended in mid-/late-2016, their finances have been ruined. While they're working with homeless ministries in Camarillo, CA, area, they have struggled to keep up with finances, unfortunately ending up effectively homeless themselves. They're not far from retirement age and in a very difficult spot trying to find work to get back on their feet—currently unemployed, although receiving some help with a local charity they're working with. Thankfully through the kindness of friends and a local monastery, they have housing and shelter provided for them, at least for the foreseeable future.
At the moment I'm trying to send them money to cover their immediate needs, which are:
* $334 — Negative overdraft fee in their bank account (basically to keep their bank accounts)
* $425 — Past-due mobile phone bill (for their phones)—due Sept. 13.
* A temporary car for the interim until they can get back on their feet financially—they had their previous car re-possessed, lack of funds to pay for it.
I desperately want to help them but am also financially limited myself. At least for the first two items I want to help spot them, and send them some extra carry-over for the interim—thus the request for $1000 total.
In other parts of the world there would be a social net for things like this, but as we all know in the US, and esp. in a place like California it's really not good... And the power of private institutions in the US, also for things like this, massively varies.
With great humility I ask for your help if you're able—but of course no need to worry if you're not able. I really do appreciate your help for helping people that some of you have known in person—they're wonderful, lovely people. I hate to see people, esp. my own, suffer in difficult circumstances like this. If anything I appreciate your kindness and help, even if it's little.
With love in Christ,
Jon Andrew
