Support for Patricia Celis’s battle against cancer

Patricia (Fatimah) is now under hospice care

Assalamu Alaykum my dearest sisters and brothers,

I am writing to provide a much-needed update on the status of our beloved sister Fatimah.  The journey of these past two years has been an ongoing test from our Creator, with multiple opportunities for sabr, shukr, and strengthening of iman, and all of it has been the truest demonstration of the qadr of Allah.  We have recently reached the next part of our journey as Fatimah is now under the care of in-home hospice after different treatments she’s been under have proven unsuccessful against the cancer and her body is too weak to undergo stronger treatments.

Only Allah knows when her final hour will come and we are doing everything to ensure that what time remains is spent in comfort with her children by her side.  We are aware of the love, affection, and admiration the community has for Fatimah and the great desire to see or speak with her, however, due to her fragile state and her inability to recover from an infection of any kind, she will not be receiving visitors.  We have created a special e-mail address through which messages of love and support may be sent.  The e-mail address is at gmail and the name is Fatimah.send.love; we have also created a dedicated phone number which is 309-Fatimah.  You may send to the e-mail, or record on the phone number, your fondest memories of Fatimah, share the ways in which she has touched your heart (and I know they are too numerous to count!) and share with her the duas you are making on her behalf.  All messages sent will be read by her, or to her, so please know that she will hear your message.  In addition to your messages of love, at this time we are really requesting generosity in support of the Gofundme and duas, duas, duas.

The message below is from Patricia (Fatimah) to all those who generously donated to her first campaign:

“I would like to start by thanking Allah (God) for placing generosity and understanding in the hearts of everyone who has offered food, friendship, funds, and dua (prayers) over this past year; you have my most sincere gratitude.  Last year, when I was diagnosed with this rare form of Sarcoma (cancer), the response to my fundraiser was astounding and affirming, raising the requested $50,000 in less than 2 weeks.  It is an abundant barakah (blessing) to be a part of this amazingly supportive community that came to my assistance during a significant time of need.  I would also like the community to know that I have been in such a state of fatigue, with limited energy, that I have not been able to consistently respond to every message, call, text, and letter but please know that it, in no way, is indicative of the messenger but more of my physical and emotional state.  If I have offended anyone, please accept my apologies, and make dua that I will be cured and returned to a state of energy and health.”

Our initial fundraiser last year was created with the intent of covering medical and household expenses for Patricia (Fatimah) and her family for 12 months and Alhumdulillah (thanks to God) we were able to cover them all almost to the dollar.
Over this past year, our dearest Patricia (Fatimah) has been receiving treatment for her cancer which has included 2 different oral chemotherapy medications, several minor procedures, and periodic scans.  She also learned earlier this year, through continuing diagnostics of her challenging case, that in addition to her cancer diagnosis she has rheumatoid arthritis.  This news provided additional clarity around the difficulty Fatimah experienced last year in getting a confirmed diagnosis and a reminder that Allahu’alam (Allah is the All-Knowing) and the best of planners.  She started treatment for rheumatoid arthritis in March and has seen some improvement.  She has also had 2 scans of her tumor which both show activity but no new tumor growth, Alhamdulillah.  She just started a new immunotherapy treatment which has promising potential and supports our continuing hope and prayers for the restoration of health and well-being to Fatimah.

In light of her two diagnoses, her cancer treatment, impaired mobility, significant weight loss, and constant fatigue, Fatimah continues to be unable to work.  The aid and assistance provided by the community through the first fundraiser was invaluable and allowed her to focus on her treatment and spending time with her children while not having to worry about how bills would be paid, how food would get on the table, and how her children would be cared for.  As we are entering year two of this battle we are asking for the same support from the community.  We thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide and ask for your continuing duas (prayers) for Patricia (Fatimah).
