23 years ago, Ramson was arrested for selling $10 worth of weed to an undercover cop in the French Quarter. Using his prior conviction for possession of weed, the judge found him guilty as a "habitual offender" and sentenced him to 25 years in prison. Last week, Ramson got resentenced and is finally free! While in prison, Ramson wrote several books and essays about socioeconomic justice, tutored younger incarcerated people to help them get their GEDs, and is one semester away from getting his bachelor's degree. He is one of the most generous and thoughtful people I've ever met. Ramson's close family members passed away while he was incarcerated for this crime, so he is starting his life again from scratch.
