Support for Ranza and Opie
Donation protected
Hi. My name is Kathy and I am a good friend and neighbour of Ranza Clark, a well loved member of our Gabriola community. You may know me as what some are starting to refer to as the "cat whisperer" as I volunteer for Cats Alive here on the island.
On Sunday Feb 5th, Ranza's beloved cat Opie was attacked by two dogs. His injuries were life threatening and he was left with numerous puncture wounds and gashes which required immediate emergency after hours care.
He was put under observation and cared for by Trish, our own island vet at Twin Cedars Veterinary Clinic. Upon observation, it was determined that Opie required an ultrasound and further exploratory tests so was transfered to the Central Island Emergency Veterinary hospital in Nanaimo.
It was determined that Opie had suffered bladder trauma and a subsequent blockage that required immediate surgery and a two night hospital stay.
Opie was a very sick kitty and there was a risk that things could turn "sideways" which put Ranza and her partner Kevin through an enormous amount of stress and trauma. Thankfully, Opie has pulled through and they are all recovering at home. Unfortunately, there will be lasting effects from his bladder injuries and he will be on a special urinary diet for his remaining eight lives. Sorry, couldn't resist!
Cat's Alive generously covered the entire vet bill for the initial stay at Twin Cedars.
Ranza is now faced with the remaining expense of the surgery and two night stay in town which amounts to $3244.00
Any financial support from her many friends, family and community would be so deeply appreciated.
If donations exceed the required amount, the extra funds will be divided equally between Cat's Alive and Pet Friends, who continually volunteer for the well being of the pets and their people on Gabriola. Thanks for your support.
