Support for Royal's Recovery and Nelsons' Journey
Donation protected
At 10:30pm on May 24th, Taylor and Drew Nelson’s 4.5 year old, Royal, was severely burned in an accident at a lantern festival. He sustained third degree burns to his lower right leg and foot. By some miracle, they were only 30 minutes away from University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City. This hospital is one of the best burn units in the nation. Royal is currently in the burn center ICU with pediatric care and will be there for the foreseeable future.
We are all so grateful that Royal is receiving such spectacular care. While this narrative is ever evolving, it’s abundantly clear that the Nelsons have a very long road ahead of them.
This journey involves weeks if not months of inpatient care. Outpatient care isn’t even being discussed at this time; that’s a hill we will all climb at a later date. Because of this, the Nelsons’ have incurred lost wages plus significant new costs of living.
Our goals with this fundraiser are as follows:
1. We want the Nelsons’ focus to be on Royal and his recovery; not bills and expenses.
2. We want to raise a realistic amount of money that will get the Nelsons through this chapter of inpatient care. We’ve accounted for 3 months of living expenses because of this.
3. We want the Nelsons’ to have a safety net to land on as they transition from inpatient to outpatient care. Depending on needs once Royal is out of the hospital, this goal may be adjusted accordingly.
The Nelsons are a vital part of the Lake City community, especially to those with young kids. Royal is adored by everyone he encounters. Drew and Taylor are honest, hard working folks who deserve this communitys’ best efforts at getting them to the finish line. We ask that you give any amount you see reasonable and thank you tremendously for your generosity.
We invite you to follow this fundraiser for regular updates.
