Support for Scott Shumate's Beloved Wife Viri

The last two weeks have seemed absolutely unreal that the down-for-any-adventure man, Scott Shumate, left this world suddenly and unexpectedly on January 25th, 2020. It truly feels as if he is off on another adventure in the backcountry wilderness, eager to come home to tell us stories from his travels.

Anyone who got to spend even the smallest amount of time with Scott experienced his unique ability to see others as their true and best self, even if they couldn't see it themselves. He encouraged and motivated others with his unwavering belief in the power of the mind-body connection and dedicated his life to bringing the unconditional love and acceptance of the great outdoors to us all...even if that meant moving to mountainless Houston, TX.

Scott lived his life in love and service by investing in people, connecting with others wholeheartedly and cherishing each of the countless relationships he made over the years. He was a giver – of his time, of his talents, and of his love.

One of those many talents, was his ability to take on any challenge with positivity and enthusiasm which lead him to be a multi-business owner as well as encouragingly supporting Viri building her own business as an esthetician. Needless to say, Scott and Viri Shumate were one powerhouse of a couple but they were also entrepreneurs. Which anyone who has owned or worked for a small business knows that to be in business for yourself means to sacrifice the perks and securities of working for a large company.

On top of the incomprehensible heartbreak of losing her best friend and the love of her life, Viri is enduring this grief with no paid time off, no security from a second income, and large unexpected medical bills with minimal to no health insurance coverage.

Our lives have been forever changed by Scott's presence but the one who will feel the loss of his presence the most is Viri. This is only the beginning of her navigating the long journey of grief and though the days following Scott's death have been unbearable, the darkest days have yet to come for her.

This is our time to show up, give freely, and practice all that Scott has taught us within the much too short amount of time we spent with him. And now he needs for us to show Viri just how deep his impact was on our lives. But more importantly, Viri needs us through these upcoming months and years.

Whether that is through financially contributing to this fund to give her relief from the financial burdens to grieve without worry or if it's through reaching out to her in the moments you wish you could reach out to him...whatever the contribution you can make it will make a difference.

One last thing... "May his passion for people become contagious in your own life, may you give selflessly and embrace others with sincerity and compassion. May we dedicate our lives in treating people with kindness, being unpretentious, and believing that every soul is worth saving. Volunteer to worthy causes, pause daily and reach out to those who are hurting or in need. Scott, in his short life, climbed his mountain with intensity and passion - now go climb yours!"
