Support for Sean McCooey

**A huge and grateful thank you to all those who have donated so far. ❤️
For those considering donating: we have left the goal amount as is, however, any amount above the goal is also greatly appreciated as it will go towards accessing better medical care and private scans/treatments, which can be very expensive. Thank you! **

Hello friends,

Our favourite Coo Dawg is going through a tough time and needs our support. He is reluctant to ask for help, but has agreed to this fundraiser with some coercion!

As many of you know, Sean has been having a series of health issues over the past couple years, and is now dealing with yet another. He has been feeling exhausted, dizzy and generally unwell for awhile now, despite receiving treatment for his heart issues. Upon a recent MRI scan, his doctors found a lesion in his brain. They are not sure what it is, but it is affecting his equilibrium/balance, energy levels, speech, and vision. He is undergoing a battery of tests to try to determine what is going on. They are unable to take a biopsy due to the location of the lesion, so they have to wait to do more scans in a few months to see if it’s growing or not. Unfortunately, the neurologist has not given Sean a great prognosis based on what they know so far and the likely possibilities.

Needless to say, all of these medical issues have been greatly impacting his ability to work for some time now, and it’s not looking like he’ll be able to work anytime soon due to the dizziness and the exhaustion. Bills are piling up and he is under a great deal of stress on all fronts which is making his health condition even harder to cope with.

As anyone who is connected to Coo knows, he is such a genuine and generous friend and community member. Let’s come together around Sean, Jessie, Keegan and Shea, and help hold them up as they navigate this frightening territory.

With gratitude and love,
Team Cooey

PS: For those who don't know Sean personally:

Sean was born in Abbotsford, then moved to Victoria after graduation. He has spent most of his life on the coast and has been connected to a number of tight knit communities in the area throughout his life. He met his fabulous wife, Jessie (nee Harrison), on Hornby Island, where she grew up. He and Jessie then moved to Lasqueti Island and raised 2 beautiful daughters there. Sean spent many summer seasons forest fire fighting around the province with the Coastal Unit Crew, and many winters on Mt. Cain and Mt. Washington, where Jessie was a ski instructor and race coach for many years.

In 2004 Sean started his own tree business on Lasqueti, working as an arborist, and specializing in dangerous tree removal. He also provided danger tree falling and assessing on forest fire lines for BCWF. He has spent many years working hard to hone his tree knowledge and skills, and is amazing at what he does (imagine Tarzan with a saw!). Sean was just in the process of expanding his business when his health started to really deteriorate last year.

In every part of his life, Sean has made lasting connections with the people around him. His door is always open and he goes out of his way to check in with friends near and far, regularly visiting or calling to catch up. His warm and fun loving personality endears friends quickly, and he is dearly loved in his home community of Lasqueti.

If you are reading this and considering donating to Sean, know that you are helping to support an amazing, hard working, generous human being. He is always quick to help out and give support, but now it’s his turn to receive. Thank you for caring!
