Support for Steve Sikes medical costs

Dear Friends,

I am writing to seek your support for my brother, Steve Sikes.   He is facing a medical crisis caused in large part by the Veterans Administrations refusal to take the medical recommendation of an oral surgeon that Steve had osteomyelitis, a serious bone infection in his jaw.  Instead they made him wait 3 months to see someone from the VA dental department.  His condition worsened to the point that he had to go to the Emory Hospital  ER to get antibiotics delivered directly through a PIC line (an injection directly into his bloodstream.)

 While it helped, Steve had to go to surgery to remove part of his jaw.  When they began the surgery they discovered cancer cells most likely caused by the infected cells becoming confused and becoming irregular during the long,  20 month ordeal, and the surgery had to be halted in order to begin a new protocol for cancer. 

 Now , he and his wife, Gail, are faced with overwhelming medical bills and an unknown future involving the upcoming surgery(s) and any subsequent medical treatment,  They don’t know how they are going to meet these expenses as the VA will not approve of these critical procedures outside of the VA system at Emory Hospital.

In addition, because of unpaid bills, the VA has garnished their social security check.  They have been forced to seek outside support.

This request is not taken lightly.  None of us has never asked for outside help before.   Any amount will help him along.  Thank you.
