Support for the Ayala Family's Medical Emergency

Donation protected
Juan Ayala is a loving husband to his wife, Elvia, and the father of two young boys, Adrian (5) and Edwin (10). Juan and his family are originally from Ecuador. Juan and Elvia made the difficult decision to come to the United States one year ago to provide their children with access to better education and life opportunities. Since arriving in Chicago, Adrian and Edwin have enrolled in school, and are already known by their teachers to be bright and hard-working students. Their parents have made numerous sacrifices and strides in working toward a better life for their family, which is why the recent tragedy that struck the Ayala family is especially heartbreaking.

On the night of Thursday, October 20th, around 2am, Elvia was woken by an alarming coughing that Juan was experiencing. With their children present, Juan was rushed to the hospital, where the family was suddenly notified that Juan was suffering from a heart attack. Just hours later, after a sleepless night at the hospital, and still unaware whether their father would be okay, the children had to be present at school. This left them no time to process the traumatic event they had just witnessed.

Because Juan’s wife must remain by his side given his uncertain medical condition, their household is currently generating no income to support their children or hospital costs. Additionally, given the family’s recent migration to the U.S., Juan is uninsured, forcing the family to pay out-of-pocket for medical bills. Juan remains in critical condition at a hospital outside of Cook County. As of this writing, Juan is currently intubated and in a coma. His family and friends continue to hope and pray for his recovery.
