Support the Dahlson Family
Donation protected
Hello! I’m Annie Behrens, a good friend of Cody and Adam, and I am reaching out on behalf of the Dahlson family, who is facing a challenging time with their 8-month-old twins, Finnley and Hallie. Finnley was recently diagnosed with KIF1A (KAND), a rare neurological degenerative disorder affecting fewer than 600 people globally. Hallie was then tested as well, and has tested positive for the same disorder.
We’re raising funds to support the family’s immediate needs, including travel for the KIF1A conference in Boston this July. This event, led by Dr. Wendy Chung, will connect them with other families and give the twins the chance to participate in a promising research study called KOALA. With ongoing medical expenses, the family is uncertain how to cover these costs, but this conference could be life-changing for them.
Any additional funds will go directly to KIF1A.org to further research for a cure. Please see the link below to find more information on how you can help, or to donate directly on their site.
Finnley's Current Status: Finnley is showing some encouraging signs in his condition. While he faces developmental delays and ongoing seizures, he remains a joyful and resilient baby. A recent genetic update revealed that he still has one functional KIF1A gene, which is positive news amidst the challenges. Adam and Cody are happy to share more about Finnley’s journey and will provide updates as they become available.
Hallie's Current Status: The family is completely shocked by Hallie's positive result to say the least. She has not had any seizures that we know of, and developmentally she is ahead of Finn. Hallie has the same deletion that Finn does so the next steps will be more testing for both of them to see how big the genetic deletion is. They now think this is something that runs in their biological family, and they have been in contact with them as well. They all qualify for free testing because they are blood relatives to Hallie and Finn--they should get their results in the next few weeks.
Adam and Cody are happy to share more about their journey and will provide updates as they become available.
We are truly grateful for any support you can offer—whether through donations or simply sharing his story. Finnley is truly one of a kind, with an infectious smile and sparkling eyes that brighten the lives of everyone he meets. Hallie is a sweet and sassy girl who loves all the attention and love that you can give her! The family deeply appreciates your generosity and kindness.
Thank you,
Annie
