If you know Kevin Demoskoff, you already know the fun, goofy, extremely positive, and compassionate individual he is. And if you know his wife, Rachelle, then you know how sweet, selfless, funny, and hardworking she is. To know them both is to know genuine kindness, love, and friendship.
As a Father to his three young kids (Rylan, Kylie & Willa), Husband to his amazing wife, and Friend to us, he makes your life better simply by being near him. His big smile is contagious, and his competitive nature lifts us all to be the best version of ourselves.
His love for his family and friends is at the center of everything he stands for as an individual. His values radiate positivity and optimism. Even when faced with incredible challenges or past tragedies, he somehow finds the silver lining in any situation, and unfortunately, 2022 would be where he would meet his biggest challenge.
In March of this year, Kevin suddenly experienced sharp abdominal pains. After a day of sitting with the discomfort and encouragement from his wife, Kevin went to the emergency room, where multiple tests confirmed that at 36 years old, he had Stage IV Colorectal Cancer with metastasis that had spread and covered every segment of his liver.
The disease was so advanced that at the time of diagnosis, Kevin was told he was not a surgical candidate and that chemo treatment was the only option to try to prolong his life.
If you know Kevin and Rachelle - this didn't sit well.
The fight began on March 1st, 2022 - just a month after Kevin and Rachelle welcomed their third child, Willa Rae, into their family. Kevin would undergo the most aggressive chemo treatment regimen for the next five months (FOLFOXIRI + Avastin), combined with a clinical drug trial.
At two-month increments, Kevin saw improvement in his scans, showing that all masses had begun to shrink in both his liver and colon. After five months of treatment, scans confirmed Kevin had become a surgical candidate!
That brings us to today, the week before Kevin's major surgery where he will have his gall bladder removed, the left (healthier) side of his liver resected, an HAI (hepatic arteriole infusion) pump implanted to deliver FUDR chemo with a dose 400x stronger than traditional systemic chemo directly to his liver, and about 1.5 feet of his large intestine/colon removed, taking out the primary cancer mass.
Kevin and Rachelle are excited to have gotten to this significant milestone. Despite the complexity and risks associated with this 8+ hour surgery, they know this is the best chance Kevin has to continue to shrink his liver metastasis to become a complete liver resection surgical candidate further down the road.
Kevin and Rachelle continue to be so encouraged by the support and check-ins from their friends, and so many of you have asked how you can help, so we are setting up this GoFundMe to help ease some of the financial burdens that they will continue to face. No donation is too small, and the donations will help the Demoskoff family cover medical bills, complimentary care that does not fall under insurance, medications, vitamins and supplements that have been so beneficial in Kevin's fight, as well as a million and one other things the Demoskoff's are going through and needing.
We also know that not everyone has the financial means to donate at this time, and that’s okay! You can help by cheering them on and lifting them in your prayers.
Kevin wanted to thank this community for the ongoing support, love and prayers for him and his family. The Demoskoff's faith in God is an incredible comfort during this time of uncertainty and challenge. Without his belief, this journey becomes infinitely more challenging and scary.
Kevin’s faith, positive attitude, and strength in this fight have already been so inspirational, and now it is our chance to support this family, show them the same kindness, love, and friendship they have always shown us, and help them WIN this fight!
I also encourage you to follow Kevin on Instagram (@kdemo19) for updates on his progress, fun stories, and adventures with his cute family.
Thank you for all your support, prayers and love!
