Support for the family of Dana Lunsford

I wanted to reach out to my community and friends to let you know I’m raising money to support Dana and his wife Ginger. They are both near and dear to my heart, and we’ve known each other for years.

Dana’s health has been slowly declining over the last year. Over a year ago, he found out he had nonalcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. The liver disease has created fluid buildup in his lungs. Twice a week for 16 months, he’s been going to the hospital to have it removed with a needle. In November, he went into respiratory distress and spent some time on the ventilator. He was eventually able to go home, but was not the funny Dana we always knew. On January 31, he was again admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and respiratory distress, and placed on a ventilator for 12 days. He’s struggled on and off at Baptist Hospital over the last 3 weeks. Everyday was hard. His body has been fighting for a long time. Today our family made the decision to transfer him to Catawba Hospice in Newton.

Ginger has been by his side since November. She’s employed with Catawba County Schools, but she’s not been able to work since November when his respiratory distress began. I want to be able to relieve some worry and stress from Ginger. She and Dana are some of the most caring people I know. It is in times of sadness people can come together to help one another make it through these hard times. Any support you may be able to provide is greatly appreciated.

A neat story to share, about 10 years ago, Dana found out he was in need of a kidney transplant. Without hesitation, Ginger was tested, and found she was a perfect match. She donated her kidney to Dana and gave him the gift of life.

Dana is resting at Catawba Hospice, they are taking good care of him and keeping him comfortable. Family has been here surrounding him with love. Please keep Dana, Ginger and his loved ones in your prayers during this difficult time.
