Support for the Family of Steve Gonzales

Donation protected
Early in the morning on Thursday, December 2, 2021, Steve Gonzales passed away quite unexpectedly. Steve was a dedicated and loving husband, father, son, brother, friend, youth coach and co-worker whose life and community influence were widespread throughout Livermore and beyond.
Steve was married to his high school sweetheart, Sarah, and they had just recently celebrated their 29th anniversary. They had three incredible children, Katelynn, Kirstynn and Tyler, whom Steve loved with his whole heart. Steve worked very hard with Sarah to provide their children with a loving and supportive home where they raised them.
Steve also dedicated much of his time and efforts to provide his children with the necessary support to attend college and start their young adult lives. He always emphasized the importance of education and hard work. Steve put in the hours to ensure that his family lived comfortably and enjoyed the fruits of his labors which included memorable family vacations and time spent in each other’s company whenever possible.
Steve’s influence stretched beyond his immediate family. He spent a lot of time supporting his kids through their various pursuits and eventually found his niche in coaching youth sports. He coached for a number of years in Livermore youth baseball as well as Pleasanton Junior Football League and Livermore Junior Football League. He finished his coaching career with Livermore High School as an assistant coach for the Junior Varsity program while his son Tyler finished up his playing days on Varsity for the Cowboys.
His teams through the years proved to be quite successful, winning many championships along the way, but he always felt his biggest success was getting to spend time with his son Tyler and Tyler’s teammates. From driving them to practice, to attending team parties, he loved watching the kids build long lasting friendships that they would go on to cherish for a lifetime.
While the performance of his teams always made Steve incredibly proud, it was the progress players made as individuals that thrilled Steve the most. Whether it was grasping the fundamentals of the game or excelling as individual players, it was the interaction and improvement of the kids that fueled him the most. His influence as a coach and mentor has been widespread over the years.
Since the news of Steve’s passing begins to spread, we are each left with amazing and heartfelt remembrances of how Steve touched our lives. His impact and influence were widespread throughout the community as well as in his place of work. His loss is felt by many, but his memory will live forever in our hearts and in the recounting of memories and stories that we shared with him.
With the emotional pain of Steve’s passing comes the stress of carrying on for those he left behind. The day-to-day living will never be the same for Sarah and the rest of the family. The financial burden of losing the main bread winner will be hard for the family to bear.
That is where we all come in. As his close friends, we are establishing this fund to cover those things that Steve worked so hard to build for his family. Keeping the house going, covering the final college expenses that he and Sarah set out to cover for their kids, helping with everyday expenses that we all know of and have to deal with. The establishment of this fund will go a long way with assisting Sarah and the kids in fulfilling the legacy Steve set out to build and maintain for them.
It is in times like this, with the feelings of loss and sadness, that we see people pull together the most. Providing each other a shoulder to lean on when we hit those low points shows the care and support we have for each other. It is this type of community and caring that Steve helped to build in everything he was involved in, whether it was raising his incredible children, coaching youth sports, or as a Project Manager at work.
We will be forever thankful for whatever time we had with Steve, and we will hold dear those shared memories. If you are reading this and feel inclined to support the legacy and family that Steve left behind, please feel free to respond with a donation of any size. The comments and donation are a way to share with Sarah and the family the many ways Steve had an impact on your lives.
Please, if you know of someone who may have not heard of Steve’s passing, share this with them. The memories and time spent with him will be as important to them as they are to you, whether you were someone he coached, shared time with, worked with or just befriended as a genuinely nice member of our community.
Thank you for the love, support and prayers for the Gonzales family during this difficult time.
