Family of the Footscray hit and run
At 8pm on Sunday 10th November my brother in law, a Footscray local, was out walking the family groodle, Romsey when they were hit by an out of control car. All four occupants fled the scene.
Despite outstanding care from the Animal Referral Hospital in Essendon, Romsey died a few days later. Romsey was a cherished member of the family, and they are devastated by his death.
While my brother in law is expected to make a full recovery, he suffered significant injuries including multiple fractures, which will require extensive rehabilitation and adjustment before he is able to come home to his partner Sarah (my sister) and their three young children.
They have been overwhelmed by the messages of love, goodwill and support from their family and friends, work colleagues and caring people in the community who heard of the incident on the news.
This page has been setup as a response to the many generous offers of support they have received.
How you can help...
All funds raised through this page will go towards the emergency veterinary costs incurred, purchasing a new puppy for their children, and any additional costs as the family rebuilds their lives. Any unused funds will be donated to charities that train therapy dogs.
Thank you to all those have already supported the family in so many ways, including emergency and medical staff, as well as those who have provided practical support including meals, flowers, cards and caring for the children.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the witness who drove Romsey to the vet hospital. They are comforted in knowing that their beloved Romsey was not left to die alone. The family would also like to sincerely thank the many caring staff at the vet hospital who tried everything they could to save his life.
Lastly, the family would like to thank Romsey’s breeder and trainer for their valued roles in Romsey’s life.
