Support Braxton Gelineau and family for treatment

Hello everyone, we are Lisa and Patrick Gelineau. We are a family of 7 that are in need of your support. Our 8 year old son, Braxton, has been struggling with mental health issues since he was about 4 years old. About 2 years ago, things took a drastic turn for the worse for him shortly after the passing of our 6 1/2 week old daughter. Since her passing, Braxton’s mental health took a severe blow and his behaviours began to become increasingly worse, escalating from temper tantrums to suddenly becoming extremely aggressive, violent, and became “a runner” ( frequently running away from home ) with little to no provocation. Some of these “episodes” have been so extreme that Braxton has attacked our family with knives, axes, and other weapons that he may have acquired at the time, resulting in police involvement being required. One such incident resulted in the police threatening to tase and/or draw their firearm, resulting in 3 officers having to disarm and restrain our 8 year old son, Braxton. As a result of this increase in behaviour, Braxton has spent a large chunk of the last year and a half in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit here in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Although the team working with him has been extremely helpful and diligent in helping, Thunder Bay’s resources for child mental health is extremely limited. They have diagnosed him with Intermittent Explosive Disorder, however, Thunder Bay simply does not have the resources to give our boy the help he so desperately needs. We have recently received word that Braxton will be admitted to a treatment facility in London, Ontario, where he will undergo intensive behavioural therapy. In an effort to not damage our family connection, Braxton, his mom Lisa and our 10 month old daughter Axara will be going to London. Braxton will be housed at the treatment facility, however, Lisa and Axara will have to find lodging elsewhere. This will come at a great cost. We are asking for support to help us cover the lodging, food, gas and childcare costs that this will create. During this time period, Lisa was scheduled to return to work following Maternity Leave, however, she will not be able to return to work until after treatment is complete. This further increases our need for financial assistance as Lisa will no longer have an income until she returns to work. Every dollar helps and we would be so appreciative of any assistance that can be offered.
