Help Keoni Fight Osteosarcoma
Donation protected
At the beginning of June, our son, Keoni, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer typically found in growing teens. His diagnosis was a complete shock but was caught pretty early by accident.
Keoni had been complaining about knee pain and as any parent would do, it was disregarded as growing pains. His visit to the doctor even suggested it was a loose knee cap that needed to be strengthened. While Keoni was preparing to travel to Idaho to spend the summer with me, his father decided to get a MRI done just to make sure he didn’t tear anything. The results put our entire world at a standstill.
If you haven’t been lucky enough to meet this kiddo, here’s a little bit about him. Keoni is 15 years old with a love for theatre and music. He has 2 sisters and 1 brother that love him to pieces. He’s a comedian at heart and loves to entertain those around him with whatever he has...jokes, tricks, songs, music, whatever the crowd wants. When he learned he had cancer, he was down for a day or so but got back up and decided he was going to win this battle. He’s remained pretty darn positive throughout all of this which is blowing everyone’s mind!
His diagnosis came as a shock to all of us but we were very very lucky to have found it early. Unfortunately, finding this early doesn’t prevent the treatment he will have to undergo to get rid of this cancer.
Keoni will have to undergo chemo for 9-12 months which he has already started. After he completes 2 cycles of chemo, we will need to have new scans done to see if his tumor has shrunk. If it has, he will need to have his entire knee replaced and continue with treatment to ensure that any remaining cancer cells have been eliminated. This treatment will be very hard on his body so regular immune booster injections will be needed to strengthen his immune system. He will also have to undergo physical therapy to get him walking on his legs again.
These shots are costly and the PT doesn't seem to be covered by the insurance, not to mention, his father and I live in separate states. So in order for us to make co-parenting a bit easier and allow me to be here for Keoni, there will be lots of traveling back and forth, lost work days, and stressful days/nights.
All donations to Keoni will be used towards his uncovered treatments and to help with traveling costs. Even if you are unable to donate, please keep our family in your prayers and pray for Keoni’s speedy recovery. Thank you all so much for taking the time to read about Keoni.
