Support for the Kajdy Family

On June 12, 2023, Brooke Kajdy was admitted to hospital while 20 weeks pregnant, where she was diagnosed with Stage 4 B-cell Lymphoma. At just 22 years old, she has been confronted with a life-altering diagnosis and is now facing a grueling fight.

After experiencing inflammation and pain in her legs in March, Brooke spoke with her GP and sought treatment from chiropractors and physios; all of which attributed her symptoms to the pregnancy. After several visits and treatments, with no visible results, Brooke was sent for bloodwork which all came back “normal”. In May as her symptoms progressed, Brooke started acupuncture, continued with physio, tried RAPID nfr therapy, started seeing an osteopath, and pelvic floor therapist, desperate to reduce her pain. Between March and June, Brooke had a total of 4 visits to the ER but was only given stronger pain medications each time and told she would have to “deal with it until she gave birth”.

To make matters worse, in April Brooke started experiencing pain in her mouth. Initially, her dentist assumed it was a bruised tooth but after a couple weeks the pain had intensified to severely swollen gums covering her back molars - she was prescribed antibiotics and referred to a periodontist. This referral resulted in a further referral to the HPTP clinic for intravenous antibiotics. Following a biopsy of her gums, it was identified that Brooke had a serious infection which had spread to her jawbone.
On June 12, 2023, following her third round of intravenous antibiotics, Brooke’s white cell count was extremely low, and she was admitted immediately to hospital. After extensive bloodwork and testing, doctors initially diagnosed Brooke with Leukemia, but a bone marrow biopsy of the hip confirmed Brooke’s diagnosis of Lymphoma.

In just a few short weeks, Brooke has already undergone 3 rounds of Chemo, dialysis, multiple blood and platelet transfusions and a stay in the cardiac unit. Sadly, due to her pregnancy, Brooke’s treatment is limited at the moment, and as such, she will be forced to deliver her baby at just 30 weeks.

Brooke is fortunate to have the support of her husband, Gabriel (Gabe), and their beautiful 19-month-old daughter, Sophie, along with numerous family and friends, however, due to the severity of Brooke’s condition and pregnancy, the family is now facing an impossible juggle.
Once born the baby will be facing a substantial stay in the NICU and Brooke will undergo aggressive and grueling treatments, which will require her to be hospitalized for 3-weeks each time.

If the heartbreak and stress of Brooke’s diagnosis wasn’t enough, Gabe has now had to take a leave of absence from work while struggling to juggle tending to Brooke during treatment and recovery, their toddler, and soon newborn baby both in the NICU and once home while Brooke is still in hospital - This has understandably caused extreme financial stress and pressure.

Brooke is the most loving, hands on, proud mum, with the most infectious smile. Being away from her daughter has completely destroyed her but the love she has for Sophie, and unborn child, is unmatched and I know she will fight with everything she has and then some.

Let's try to ease the family’s financial burdens so they can focus on the fight ahead and being there for Brooke and their 2 small children. Any size donation helps and is very much appreciated!
