Gjoa has been a fighter from day 1- suffering a brain injury at birth left him with a seizure disorder. As he grew and got older, his seizures have been harder and harder to control, ultimately affecting his everyday and his quality of life.
On April 2nd he went for a procedure to place electrodes on his brain to monitor, and try to determine, exactly where the seizures were coming from, the purpose of this testing was to establish a better treatment plan and determine if he would need surgery or different meds.. basically a plan to improve his quality of life.
While undergoing this relatively routine procedure, he suffered a catastrophic brain bleed and required part of his skull to be removed so the team could suction the blood off is his brain and attempt to stop the bleeding.
A bleeding brain means MORE damage, ICU admission and an unknown future. It’s also means that a short stay in the hospital is now a looong stay.
I am creating this page for everyone’s asking HOW the can help… all money collected will be used to support the Mackinnon’s however they need.
Gas, food, accommodation in the immediate future as well as lost wages and income while Gjoa’s parents stay with him.
long term could be physio, braces, a wheel chair, house modifications… his extent of rehab and disability is unknown. We pray he makes a full recovery but so many unknowns at this time.
