Support for Mason Le Blanc & Family

Mason John Xavier Le Blanc, 15, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, (sometimes referred to as Ewing Sarcoma), in February of 2018. Ewing’s Sarcoma is a malignant cancer of the bone typically found in young children and young adults, see the Children’s National Medical Center web page. It will often first occur in the bone and soft tissue around the pelvis, although it can occur anywhere in the body.

Mason was diagnosed in February 2018, two years after the death of his mother, Peggy Le Blanc, in February of 2016 from Multiple Myeloma. Peggy’s cancer was diagnosed in November 2005, one year after his birth in November 2004.
Mason’s first treatments were throughout 2018 for a tumor that was in his right pelvis that pressed on a nerve. The treatment included a long inpatient stay at Children’s National Medical Center, extensive chemotherapy, and radiation. The pain of the tumor prevented him from walking both during and after recovery. Mason was treated successfully and although he had technically completed his traditional treatments in October of 2018, he told the medical team that he would prefer to put off the bell-ringing ceremony until the trial was complete. After the close of the trial in the Spring of 2019, Mason moved to a maintenance routine of check-ins. In the Fall of the same year, a maintenance CT scan and MRI identified a recurrence of the cancer. This time the cancer had taken the form of two masses in the hip bone. This time the cancer did not respond to chemotherapy. The family accepted the option of participating in an experimental procedure that combined a HIFU surgery with targeted chemotherapy. The first mass responded successfully but the second continues to spread through the hip bone.
Mason will now undergo a third major course of treatment beginning on June 24 with: -a surgery to remove the affected portion of the bone -an inpatient stay at the hospital for recovery -an extended period of chemotherapy -physical therapy to regain his ability to walk without a limp. The risks of the surgery include nerve damage, although unlikely. In the past and looking ahead, the family needs support during his recovery supporting his stay in the hospital, the logistics of his medical treatments, support for mental health counseling and any assistance you can provide this summer and fall.
Needless to say, Mason, Caitlin, his sister, and the entire family have endured so much, physically, emotionally and financially. When considering Mason’s treatments and plans for both children’s education, the Le Blanc family is faced with overwhelming stress and expense. Jamal, the father of Mason and Caitlin, is a humble, hard worker, who gives his all to his children. Caitlin, Mason’s older sister is a 2019 high school graduate of Gaithersburg High School. She too is a hard worker and is working while pursuing a degree in social services at Montgomery College. She plans on utilizing her degree to work in child protective services. Mason is currently still enrolled in Gaithersburg High School as well. Mason never fails to put a smile on your face and always has everyone laughing, he also is a wizard on the Playstation and will be working with his friend Dean to build his first gaming PC.
All together they assemble a beautiful, proud, positive, one of a kind family. Although they work hard to stay positive and strong, no family is more deserving. Anything to ease their medical bills, support their education, hardships and make their lives easier would be extremely appreciated.
