In May of last year, our father, Vagn Mikkelsen, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly during a work-related trip to Southeast Asia. At the time, he was on his way back to Guatemala, where he lived with our mother, youngest brother, and sister. But he was temporarily stuck in Denmark due to the global COVID-19 travel restrictions. While staying in a hotel, he tragically passed away in his sleep. Our father was put to final rest in his hometown in Denmark, thankfully right beside our grandmother and grandfather.
Our dad was a proud, gentle, and kindhearted man who was so very loved by his family. He continued to work past retirement age to provide for our mother, brother, and sister, which he did right up to the day of his untimely passing.
We started this fundraising campaign last year as our family's financial situation has been very challenging now that our dad is gone, and we aren't able to support our mother, brother, and sister on our own. We ask for charitable support to help with their rent, living expenses, our brother and sister's future college education, and relocation costs for moving them back to Denmark (airfare, shipping/moving costs, etc.) within the next few months.
COVID has made getting them out of Guatemala very difficult, so this campaign has taken longer than we expected. We really hope that now COVID is easing across the world, we can get our family out of Guatemala.
Any amount you can donate would be much appreciated and will go a long way toward ensuring our younger siblings have the future our dad wanted for them. We'll be forever grateful for your kindness and benevolence as we continue to remember and honor our father.
