On October 11th, 2022 the Moorhouse family of New Gisborne Victoria received the shocking news that every parent dreads. They discovered that their 8-month-old daughter, Evelyn (Evie), has an aggressive form of Leukaemia called “T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia”. Evie was immediately admitted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Children’s Hospital were she spent 10 days before transfer to the oncology ward.
Evie’s Care Team has advised her family that she has a long road ahead - at least two and a half years of treatment will be needed to battle this Leukaemia.
On January 18th, 2023 Evie's family received more bad news about her condition. After 2 rounds of chemo, the Leukaemia is still very present, and more intense treatment is needed. This new treatment plan also includes a bone marrow transplant, which brings a new set of dangers and risk. It will mean months of isolation for Evie and her family while she recovers from the procedure.
Despite this terrifying and painful time, Evie is trying to battle along with a smile on her face and her parents are doing everything they can to continue to make happy memories with Evie. She spent her first Christmas in hospital and her first birthday in the Oncology Ward at the RCH.
This GoFundMe was started to try and ease some financial pressure and uncertainty in an already unimaginably stressful time. Mum (Courtney) has had to stop working to be a by Evie's side. Evie's Father Honè (John) has also had to significantly cut back his hours of work to be present at hospital too.
Please feel free to share this page with anyone that you think can help Evie and her family throughout this heartbreaking journey.
