Support for the Rasmussen Family

Let me share a story about an amazing family - The Rasmussens. Haley and Sam met their freshman year in High School, and after college, they married in 2018. They decided to start a family right away, and Lauren was born just three weeks before the pandemic began. At the time, they lived away from family and had to start their family isolated from the world.

As the pandemic subsided, they purchased a home and found out they would have their second daughter (Natalie) this year in June. When Haley was seven months pregnant in April, they discovered that Sam would require open heart surgery. Sam was born with a congenital heart defect. When he was a newborn, he was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries, which means that his Aorta and Pulmonary Artery were switched, which is very rare. He had surgery just days after birth.

Now as a husband and a father, they discovered that the surgery he had as a newborn would require a repair. They would have to perform open heart surgery and repair part of the Aorta with an artificial one. This is a complicated surgery, and due to the rarity of the original surgery not common.

Sam waited until after Natalie's birth to have the surgery; now is his time. His surgery is soon, and a several-month recovery is expected. The surgery is away from their home, and he will be in the hospital minimally for a week. These funds will help them with travel expenses, hotels, daycare and the many months of bills during the recovery period. He is a committed husband and father, and they would never ask for this - but they deserve it.
