Support for the Starch Family

Shortly after my wedding, pictured above, in 2016, my dad's life changed forever. What was supposed to be a routine hand surgery involving collagen injections turned into a nightmare when my dad had an allergic reaction and his body started attacking itself - causing him to develop multiple autoimmune responses. This added to his already weakened system from having had MS for 30 years. It has resulted in the loss of almost everything - he went from being healthy, working full-time to about 85% disabled, loosing his job & quality of life within 5 short months.

After a trip to the Mayo Clinic, my dad was official diagnosed with diffuse scleroderma, esinophilic fasciitis, and pansclerotic morphea.  In simple terms, his body is attacking all his skin & fascia, causing it to harden, the skin to thicken, and his joints to lock up - limiting his mobility.  It is extremely painful, really like being a full-time burn victim. This triggered insomnia and so he hasn't slept a full night in over 2 years.

Just under 2 weeks ago, my dad ended up in the hospital after experiencing severe leg pain, which turned out to be a deep tissue and muscle infection. It took more than 8 days of IV antibiotics and the pain was barely reduced. He has been sent home, but is to be non-weight bearing due to the painful, open wounds for quite some time.

My Mom is the Flagstaff Young Life Area Director, a ministry that works with middle school, high school & college age students -helping them navigate difficult years and teach kids they are valued and loved.  Since Young Life is a non-profit, my parents entire income is based on generous donations, which as one can imagine is difficult for many during this time with Co-vid.

Even with insurance, this next medical hurdle is looking like it is going to cost around $15,000 out of pocket and that is only the beginning of what could end up being far more. Without my dad's job my parents have already been stripped of their savings and certainly my mom's ability to take care of him and provide is quite the challenge as the world faces many future unknowns.

While I know there are tough times all around, we are asking that you might consider a donation. Even small gifts can add up to something that would really bless our family in this difficult time.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
