Support for the Zambrano Family

Our precious Sophie is undergoing chemo after having an emergency surgery in late October to remove Wilms tumor from her left kidney. She will continue her treatments into the early spring. We are staying strong for her, but it’s a  constant battle, full of ups and downs. Of course, she’s only 5 and doesn’t completely understand what’s happening, but she continues to inspire us through her strength and resilience. When she is feeling good, she sings, dances, and talks, but when she is feeling down, she tires quickly and we can see the pain and sadness in her face. As a parent, those are our hardest moments.

We have received so much love and support from everyone who knows us, and we are forever grateful for their incredible generosity. We believed we could soldier through, but after some recent touch and go moments with Sophie we are taking more time off from work to be with her. After the encouragement from friends, we decided to start this fundraising campaign to help us meet our day-to-day needs with groceries and bills.

We are blessed in so many ways, and the prognosis is very positive. We simply need to get through the next few months to help ensure she has rid her body of the cancer. Many thanks to those of you who have already helped us. Our hearts are full with gratitude, and thank you in advance for any way you can help.

The Full Story

At the beginning of October, the day before she turned 5, we took our daughter Sophie to the emergency room because we saw blood in her urine. They only checked her urine and said it was a UTI, so we gave her antibiotics and after we finished the medication, the blood was still in her urine, so we went for further testing.

On October 24th, they did the ultrasound and that afternoon they told us that Sophie has a tumor in her left kidney, and we would need to go to the hospital to remove it.

The next day, the doctor confirmed that it is a tumor called Wilms tumor. Surgery was needed right away. After the medical team removed her kidney and the tumor, we found out that she has stage one cancer, which was a relief because it could have been much worse. We learned that Sophie needs to start chemotherapy right away to kill any remaining bad cells.

It was a hard recovery for her after the initial surgery, but Sophie persevered.

A week later, we needed to return for another surgery to install the port for the chemo and to start the chemo as soon as possible. The following days were difficult, as she confronted the pain and nausea as best she could. Since then, we have been visiting the hospital frequently for blood transfusions due to her low blood count.

Thanks to all the people who support us and all the people who is giving us your hand in the moment we need it the most. So many of you reached out asking how you can help us. There are lost of ways you can help us as we go through this challenging time. Prayer is a huge need! And encouraging words go a long way too! or if you would like to make a donation to support our basic needs, this is one of the best ways to help. We really appreciate your generosity!
