Before addressing the damaged Achilles tendons, the abdominal infection ended up costing him over $16,000. Of course all of these bills started coming in after the first of the year when Covid 19 was starting to ramp up and his successful business as a professional handyman was rapidly declining because of lockdowns, social distancing, and general public worry. Especially due to the majority of his customers being elderly.
Like many millions of people around the USA and the world, the last 6 months have been rocked with worry and uncertainty. It's one thing if you have a few bucks saved up for emergencies, it's a whole different animal when you have $16,000 worth of unexpected medical bills in front of you at the kitchen table without the ability to keep earning from your career.

 

I am in a unique situation having been diagnosed with leukemia 4 years ago. My hospital stay and subsequent diagnosis was so devastating and life altering that I was able to qualify for numerous avenues of help financially and medically. My brother Tom was such a big help to me, sorry I'm choking up a little, in the beginning and still is to this day. I owe him and many others oceans of gratitude.

Anyway. Tom is in the process of shopping for health insurance and it looks like he is about a month away from healing his Achilles tendons on his own with solid internet medical advice, lol, I laugh but he has truly gone about it in a very determined, consistent and intelligent way. But the stack of medical bills on his kitchen table is not going away anytime soon.
