Support for Ty and Lukas Recovery Fund

Hello everyone,
I am reaching out to you today on behalf of my extended family, my son’s nephews (their step-sisters boys).
Ty and Lukas were recently involved in a near-fatal car accident that has left them facing unexpected challenges and hardships.
On New Year’s Eve, just minutes from their home, Ty (17) was driving with Lukas (15) as the passenger when their truck hit a patch of ice, left the roadway striking a hydro pole and rolling onto its side. The accident was caused by a flash freeze in the area, resulting in several other accidents at the same time. Thankfully, Ty did nothing wrong, but the sudden loss of control led to this devastating incident.
Ty suffered airbag injuries to his face, a broken hand, multiple stitches and cuts, and a torn shoulder rotator cuff. He received treatment at RVH. Lukas, on the other hand, was treated for head wounds and an ear wound (requiring many stitches) at RVH. However, due to a CT scan revealing bleeding on the brain and a bruise on his lung, he was rushed to Sick Kids Hospital. Lukas has been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, specifically a left frontal contusion and temporal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Occupational therapists and speech and language pathologists have reported that he is experiencing slowed cognitive processing in reading, thinking, and speaking. Lukas is now recovering at home, but a gradual re-entry to school and regular life will be necessary.
As of now, the primary focus is on the boys' health, the numerous medical appointments they will have in the near future (including physiotherapy and specialist appointments at Sick Kids), and trauma counseling. While their dad has medical insurance, the care the boys need will likely exceed the insurance maximums.
Furthermore, Ty's vehicle only had liability insurance, not replacement insurance. This truck served as their primary transportation to school and their part-time jobs. Currently, the family is exploring all options for transportation to minimize the time missed from work for both parents. Eventually, they will require assistance in getting back on the road.
We have started this GoFundMe campaign to help alleviate the financial burden this accident has placed on Tim and Lindsay's family. The funds raised will go towards covering medical expenses, including Lukas' ongoing treatment and therapy, as well as trauma counseling for both boys. Additionally, the funds will be used to explore transportation options and eventually help the family get back on the road.
Any help you can provide this family would be greatly appreciated. Your contribution will make a meaningful difference in Ty and Lukas' lives, ensuring they receive the care they need and helping Tim and Lindsay navigate this challenging period without the added stress of financial worries.
Thank you for taking the time to read their story and considering a contribution. Your generosity and compassion will help Ty, Lukas, Tim, and Lindsay overcome this difficult time and pave the way for a smoother path to recovery.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Kim
