Direct Aid for Yagi Storm victims
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Chris. I'm a teacher and content creator currently living in Vietnam and one of my biggest joys in life is working with young people.
Recently I started this GoFundMe to organize a Mid-Autumn Festival event for some disadvantaged kids in Ho Chi Minh City. We quadrupled our goal thanks to the generosity of donors. The next project on the horizon was set for November, a joint effort with an author friend Windy to do a charity trip to a remote village in Hoa Binh province in order to provide 300 jackets to ethnic minority children and 200 free health checks for the village elderly.
However, just when we were about to announce our November project, tragedy struck northern Vietnam. Typhoon Yagi left a path of destruction on a level not seen in decades. The team that we were working with for November is based in Hai Phong (along with Windy's family), which just happened to be one of the most badly hit areas.
This donation drive has 3 phases:
1. Direct aid to families in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh province
The first phase is to pool together funds to provide direct aid to families in Hai Phong and greater Quang Ninh province, where I will be working with a local charity organization. I'm flying out to Hai Phong to meet with Windy's family who work directly with this group to provide funds for people needing emergency aid for their homes.
2. Mission to Hoa Binh Province
The Hai Phong team works directly with a school in Hoa Binh province in the remote mountains and despite their own community being badly affected, they are still finding ways to rush help to the community there. Additional funds go toward our mission to distribute food and supplies to Hoa Binh in the upcoming weeks. Fingers crossed that the roads are cleared for us to get up there.
3. Continued support for Hoa Binh school
Our goal is to continue funding the school in Hoa Binh and health care for local people through the winter months, when it can get very cold in the mountains. Funds go toward jackets, supplies, and health checks. We work directly with a group of local volunteers in Hoa Binh province and will be doing a trip their ourselves at the end of November along with a team of volunteer doctors and nurses from Hai Phong. Thank you for your support, everyone!
