Support Fort Foster's Historic Preservation

I am from the Hillsborough River Preservation Society, Citizens Support Organization. Our main goal is to generate public awareness, education, and financial support for the preservation and maintenance of Hillsborough River State Park and the Fort Foster State Historic Site. Like Florida State Parks, the Hillsborough River State Park and the Fort Foster State Historic Site have programs and needs which reach beyond the state’s ability to provide funding and support. This is where the Preservation Society comes in. By generating additional support for the park in the form of fundraising, supplemental staffing, equipment, etc., we are aiding the park in the fulfillment of its mission.
Fort Foster State Historic Site is a reproduction of a fort originally built on the same grounds in December 1836 by Col. William S. Foster and his 430 men.
Since the hurricanes that happened this past year, we have been working diligently to get the park and the fort in working order so we can open to guests. With that being said, Fort Foster is back up to par and ready for events. However, the upkeep for the fort is going to take some help from our community.
We are raising funds to help keep the fort in working order as well as replacing things that got destroyed due to the flooding the fort and park received. We lost all of our soldier uniforms, candles, woodworkings, etc.
The fort is a historic landmark and a big piece of Florida history. We need to do all we can to make sure it is here for generations to come.
